Knights of Amphipoda

Provincial Post-Diaspora transhuman soldiers of the Colonial Dark Ages. TOP is a pikeman or lancer, while BOTTOM is similar to a "knight on horseback" (except, you know, without the horse). I was thinking of that era where swords were designed to pierce and exploit chinks in armor.

I should again clarify that these guys are soft 'n squishy vertebrates, despite their superficially crustacean body forms--it's only the segmented armor that makes them look exoskeletal.

So many possible variations on this idea, in terms of both historical stylings (and their potential amalgamations and evolutions) as well as the myriad arthropod body forms to exploit. So many lost colony worlds to explore!
