Asymebelodons

Hypnagogic image flash of gomphothere-like proboscideans with an asymmetrical side-by-side juxtaposition of trunk and mandible, leading to a kind of "crossbill shovel-tusker" jaw configuration. The original image flash was actually closer to the bottom one--I had the impression of a beaked whale with a straptooth-style tusk on one side of its face and a short trunk on the other.  I'm thinking they might use the trunk and jaw in a coordinated fashion, kind of like chopsticks.
