Description

Pterosaurian analogs to seabirds and marine mammals inspired by :iconhyrotrioskjan:'s ([link]).
Obviously their cephalic crests have evolved into dorsal fins. They steer with their hay-eds!! I'm sure that's hydrodynamically impossible, but I don't care. I'm also aware that none of these correspond very closely to any known real-world pterosaurs.

The two on the left are Tapejaran "parrotfish puffins." The "Pteranoporpoise" at top right boasts an expanding throat sac, and could eventually evolve into something like a whale. Bottom right is a Nyctosaurian billfish analog. My original intention was to do a finished Nyctoswordfish, but it never quite came together, so I decided to just post these sketches and at least give the idea some exposure. I think these would also look good colored!

Damn, just remembered an idea from a while back I never quite followed up on...The concept was aquatic pterosaurs with body designs significantly more aberrant than these, almost more along the lines of cliones. Not as extreme as the Pinnimorphs, but definitely a couple of steps beyond the Pterorays. These guys here are, if anything, more conservative than the Pterorays.

Crest as fin is a great idea! I'd love to see how they move.
