Description

Not really wild about this one...I know it looks a lot like a Gannetwhale, but the inspiration struck from a totally different direction. I was searching on seal photos for yet another pinniped-related idea, and this image of a ribbon seal popped out at me with one of those perceptual twists where I first interpreted or imagined the head as elongated into a bill or beak. I had a very vivid image flash of a heavy-headed pliosaur with a seal-like, amphibious body. Of course the idea of a pliosaur with THIS style pinniped morphology really doesn't fit anywhere in orthodox pliosaur evolution, so although I enjoyed the name Kronoped enough to keep it, you can pretend the creature itself is whatever you like. Personally, I like to think of it as a late entry in the Polar Permian contest, but it could also be a lost transitional whale, an alternate nothosaur offshoot, an evolved Icadyptes--or yes, even another future seabird.
