Habilihox Gorillahox

In terms of my fictional terrestrocentric model of panspermia, where biological forms become progressively more divergent the further you get from Earth, these guys would be further out towards the periphery of the terrestrial admixture seeding zone in comparison with my usual chimerical hybrids. They aren't (or aren't only) chimerae of terrestrial organisms, but rather represent alternate Hox-derived body plans. In this case, obviously, the form of the terrestrial primate hand serves as the holotype for the total body morphology.

A - One potential bauplan. I could see swapping the ears with the eyes on this one. Note that the olfactory nostrils are on the knee/knuckles, while the primary intake nostrils for gas exchange are located between the "legs." Targeting and range-finding eyes in the "fingertips" are also a possibility, protected by a thorny nictitating lid.

B - Walking on "all fours," with the remaining fingers freed up to do all kinds of creepy things. I could see this moving in directions analogous to spider spinnerets, ceratopsian frills, stegosaurian plates 'n spikes, or perhaps just a nice fruit basket. Note the basically unmodified primate head depending from the lower central body.

C - Running, possibly in pursuit of prey. Again with the terrestrial baseline primate head, but note the ears on the inner "palm" surfaces. Think about the possibilities for "sign language" in these guys!

D - The "maws" on the knees are blind (alimentarily speaking), predigestive mouths primarily used for seizing and manipulating food. Note the eyes on the palmar surface--these would probably make more sense as ears per C, with the cupped inner surface of the hand acting as a parabolic dish amplifier.

I found it incredibly difficult to make these look like anything other than giant hands or giant faces. That may sound like an odd or paradoxical complaint considering my working point of reference, but I really did picture them looking like something "else." More like what happens to fruit flies when you mess with their homeoboxes and they end up with eyes on their knees and legs where their antennae should be...Like that, but anatomically integrated and functional.
